Business Appreciation Week has been celebrated by the Commonwealth of Virginia since 1997. The Department of Business Assistance coordinates the week. It's a time when state government and local jurisdictions recognize the many contributions businesses make and say, "Thank you." During Business Appreciation Week, communities hold events as diverse as golf tournaments and receptions to honor their businesses.

In 2009, Virginia will pay tribute to the many charitable and community service activities that her businesses undertake, often quietly and without fanfare. From boxes to collect Toys for Tots, through adopting a highway, to cash contributions for flood victims, businesses of every size in Virginia do good work that is vital to sustaining their communities.

Business Appreciation Week 2009 will include, for the first time ever, a Governor's Entrepreneur Summit to gauge where Virginia stands in promoting entrepreneurship and where it go in the future. The Summit is scheduled to be an all day event on Wednesday, May 13th, in Richmond. A Business Appreciation Reception will follow.
